Welcome to our church's website!
What a privilege it is to welcome you here, to know that for some important reason, you found the Christ the Shepherd website and you have even clicked your keyboard a few times and are here on this pastor's blog.
These may be the first words you will ever have heard from me. What does one write under such circumstances? I'm reminded of when my son was born, and the nurse wrapped him up and handed him to me. I looked at his little blinking face, leaned down as I pulled him up to me, and whispered into his ear -- the first words outside the womb that he would ever hear from his father -- "St. Louis Cardinals."
I probably should have said something more profound, like "Welcome to the world, Little One. Your mom and I will always love you. But God loves you even more than that." Or something like that. And, despite my early attempts at Redbird propaganda, my now-teenage son is not even a Cardinals fan, or a baseball fan, or, come to think of it, a sports fan. I would love to have a do-over on that first communication.
So in this space, though you will eventually be seeing things such as "St. Louis Cardinals" and "Manchester United" and "Bob Dylan" (for whom this “My Back Pages” blog is named), as well as references to church events and current sermon series and the wonders of living in Greater Danbury, right now I think I'll wrap up with the most important thing of all. And it comes in the form of a Scripture reference.
And I will leave you with that. What was it Mary Poppins said? "Enough is as good as a feast." And that's enough for now.
